A group of professional imagers agreed to output two image files given them by the Association of Professional Color Imagers. One was to be printed at 34 x 66 the outher at 48 x 48. eight different output devices were involved, including the Design Jet, Lambda, and Novajet Pro. The results were the subject of a convention workshop. The winning Lightjet 5900 was chosen by Digital Imaging Marketing Association voting members.
The Lightjet 5900 series digital laser photo makes amazingly sharp prints. Files can be created at 1/2 size at 300 ppi, and interpolated by the Lightjet hardware to the printed size as large as 48 x 98. It images on C print material, Duraflex, Duratran and Metallic. We have found it excellent for images with long dynamic ranges and capable of incredible greens.
For economical smaller prints up through 10 x 15 we use Fuji's
Frontier. It can speedily scan and print traditional film as well as
accepting prepared digital files. It also scans & prints slides on C-print
material inexpensively.
